Online home-valuation websites can give you a rough idea of your home’s worth, but there are better ways to find an accurate estimate.
Before you even begin thinking about selling your house, it’s a great idea to know what it’s worth. Websites such as Zillow or Redfin provide estimates which can help give you a rough idea on pricing, but these valuations should never be taken as 100% accurate.
Valuation websites use algorithms, which leave out important information such as:
- Upgrades: Algorithms do not take into account upgrades that have been made in the home, which may have added thousands in value.
- Location: If you’re off the beaten path in an area with few homes nearby, estimates may be much lower than what your home is actually worth.
